FAQs

Regarding Diabetic Retinal Sceening at Orrell Opticians.

If you have any further questions

Do you have parking at your practice?

Yes, we have parking at the practice door, for someone who has driven you to your appointment. You should not drive after having your diabetic eye screening appointment.

What can I expect during my diabetic eye screening appointment?

Our diabetic eye screening appointments typically last around 25 minutes. Here's a brief overview:- We'll discuss your medical history and ask about any vision concerns you may have.
- We will insert drops into your eyes to dilate your pupils.
- Once the drops take effect, we'll take photographs of the back of your eyes. The camera does not come into contact with your eyes.

What happens after the screening appointment?

The results of your screening will be sent to you and your GP within 3 weeks by the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme, based in Crewe. We do not send the results out.

Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?

Please bring your current glasses and a list of any medications you are taking.

Will I be able to drive after my appointment?

No. The eye drops used during the screening can blur your vision for a few hours. It's best to arrange for someone to drive you home after the appointment, or use public transport.

How often will I need diabetic eye screening?

The frequency of screening depends on your individual needs and your diabetic retinopathy risk profile. Recalls vary from 3 monthly up to 24 months, however most people are recalled for screening every 12 months.
