Orrell Opticians are very friendly, they know their job very well. I am a type 1 diabetic and I've been using them for my diabetes check ups.

After attending a diabetic screening appointment with Orrells I had a swollen eyelid and returned. The optician gave me a thorough examination and diagnosed blocked glands due to blepharitis and prescribed wipes and a heat pad. I was a bit sceptical, but after a week it cleared up. They followed up with a call to see how I was doing, and suggested I return if this reoccurred. The service was excellent and I will be recommending them to friends and colleagues, especially as it’s a local business rather than a national one.

Yes, we have parking at the practice door, for someone who has driven you to your appointment. You should not drive after having your diabetic eye screening appointment.
Our diabetic eye screening appointments typically last around 40 minutes. Here's a brief overview:
- We'll discuss your medical history and ask about any vision concerns you may have.
- We will insert drops into your eyes to dilate your pupils.
- Once the drops take effect, we'll take photographs of the back of your eyes. The camera does not come into contact with your eyes.
The results of your screening will be sent to you and your GP within 3 weeks by the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme, based in Crewe. We do not send the results out.
Please bring your current glasses and a list of any medications you are taking.
The eye drops used during the screening can blur your vision for a few hours. It's best to arrange for someone to drive you home after the appointment, or use public transport.
The frequency of screening depends on your individual needs and your diabetic retinopathy risk profile. Recalls vary from 3 monthly up to 24 months, however most people are recalled for screening every 12 months.
